Gary M. Gershon

Gary Gershon is a senior integration architect for workplace technologies and legacy systems. His current focus areas include the design and implementation of work management, workflow, and document management systems unifying mainframe, client-server, and Internet environments.
Over several substantial insurance industry underwriting and service projects, Gary has been successful in using object-oriented rapid application development tools. to establish system requirements and develop user interfaces which have delighted business users. These object technologies supported projects with iterative cycles for requirements gathering, code development , and testing. The resulting incremental deliverables were manageable to deploy and the object technology reduced maintenance costs and increased system reliability.
He has developed Internet and client-server document document management object models, frameworks, and implementations using Java and Smalltalk, which support document management products from multiple vendors. These provide document management system interoperability and system evolutionary flexibility. The Internet technology solutions utilize advanced engineering concepts including Universal Resource Naming, distributed repositories, federated search, and logical separation of repositories from search engine facilities.
Mr. Gershon brings to his clients three decades of management and information technology experience in application design and programming, complex system technical support, marketing, and technology management positions, including 15 years with IBM and customer system development projects. He served for four years as manager and Editor of the IBM Systems Journal, a highly-regarded international technical quarterly.
As a Senior Manager for KPMG Peat Marwick Advanced Technology, he established new practice areas in Strategic Systems, imaging, workflow, and communications technologies. His practice offered management consulting services to advise organizations on the strategic applications that support telecommunications and high-volume workplace systems. Clients included major companies in high technology, insurance, legal and financial services, software and computer services, telecommunications, and government.
Gary has had experience in designing and implementing well-accepted workflow tools in object-oriented environments using Smalltalk for OS/2, NT, and Windows environments, as well as server applications in traditional languages including C and COBOL. He is experienced in relational and IMS databases, transaction and message queuing systems, and SNA and TCP/IP communications systems. His commercial workflow analysis product, Route Analyzer, has been a productive tool for a number of large corporations.
Gary has served as a national lecturer on imaging, interorganizational systems, EDI, object-oriented development, and workplace engineering subjects. He has been published in several technology and management publications and proceedings. Gary has developed and taught multi-day classes in document management and workflow application design.
Mr. Gershon received a BSEE from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MS in Systems and Information Science from Syracuse University, and an MBA, with honors, from New York University. He served on the Computing Practices Advisory Panel for the ACM and is a past ACM Chapter Chairman. Gary has been a speaker for SHARE and is a member of ACM, IEEE, Beta Gamma Sigma honorary society, and holds an ICCP Certificate in Data Processing (CDP).
